Day 1 : Arrive in Christchurch – The Garden City Welcome
Welcome to Christchurch, known as New Zealand’s “Garden City.” Upon arrival, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, explore the Botanic Gardens, the Avon River, and the rejuvenated city center, blending heritage architecture with modern innovation. Visit the Cardboard Cathedral and enjoy the creative vibe of Riverside Market. Rest and prepare for the scenic adventures ahead.
Day 2 : Christchurch – Arthur’s Pass – Greymouth – Glacier Region
This morning, embark on a spectacular journey across the Southern Alps via the scenic Arthur’s Pass, one of the most dramatic drives in New Zealand. Alternatively, take the TranzAlpine Train to Greymouth (optional upgrade), considered one of the world’s most scenic rail journeys. From Greymouth, travel along the wild West Coast, arriving at the Glacier Region by evening. Check in at your hotel in Franz Josef or Fox Glacier, nestled within a lush rainforest and mountainous backdrop.
Day 3 : Glacier Region – Ice Adventures & Rainforest Trails
Today is yours to explore the stunning glacier landscapes. Choose from a variety of activities including a guided glacier walk, heli-hike, or a scenic helicopter flight with a landing on the ice (weather permitting). Alternatively, stroll along the Franz Josef Glacier Valley Walk, or visit the tranquil Peters Pool for mirror-like reflections. In the evening, unwind in the soothing Glacier Hot Pools, surrounded by native rainforest.
Day 4 : Glacier Region – Haast Pass – Wanaka
Depart the Glacier Region and journey south along the coastline before heading inland via the breathtaking Haast Pass, a scenic drive filled with waterfalls, river gorges, and lush beech forests. En route, stop at attractions like Thunder Creek Falls and Blue Pools. Arrive in the picturesque lakeside town of Wanaka by afternoon. Enjoy a relaxed evening by Lake Wanaka or take a walk up Mount Iron for panoramic views.
Day 5 : Wanaka – Arrowtown – Queenstown
After breakfast, explore Wanaka’s local charm with a visit to Puzzling World or a lakeside stroll. Depart for Queenstown, stopping en route at the historic gold mining village of Arrowtown, with its quaint streets and preserved heritage. Arrive in Queenstown, the adventure capital of New Zealand, nestled on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. Check in and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, with plenty of dining and shopping options.
Day 6 : Queenstown – Adventure or Leisure Day
Today is at your leisure to explore Queenstown at your own pace. For adventure seekers, options include jet boating on the Shotover River, bungy jumping at Kawarau Bridge, or a scenic helicopter tour. For a more relaxed experience, ride the Skyline Gondola for panoramic views, take a cruise on Lake Wakatipu, or enjoy a wine tasting tour in the nearby Gibbston Valley. Whatever your preference, Queenstown offers something for everyone.
Day 7 : Queenstown – Lake Pukaki – Mt Cook National Park
Leave Queenstown behind and drive through Lindis Pass and the Central Otago high country toward Mt Cook National Park, home to Aoraki / Mount Cook, New Zealand’s tallest peak. En route, stop at the stunning Lake Pukaki, known for its surreal turquoise waters. In the park, enjoy optional short walks like the Hooker Valley Track, offering incredible views of glaciers and alpine scenery. Overnight stay amidst towering peaks and starlit skies.
Day 8 : Mt Cook – Lake Tekapo – Christchurch
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Christchurch. Stop at Lake Tekapo, where you’ll visit the iconic Church of the Good Shepherd, beautifully positioned on the lakeshore with snow-capped mountains in the distance. If time permits, relax at Tekapo Springs or visit the Mt John Observatory. Continue across the Canterbury Plains, arriving in Christchurch by late afternoon. Enjoy a relaxed final evening in the city.
Day 9 : Departure from Christchurch
Your South Island adventure comes to an end today. After breakfast, you will be transferred to Christchurch International Airport for your onward journey. Depart with unforgettable memories of alpine landscapes, glacier valleys, shimmering lakes, and warm Kiwi hospitality.
